There is a lot of hype about Maine lobstering. This exhibit shows you the real history of the fishery, and occupies an entire building. You may be surprised at how recently lobstering became a commercial fishery (the 1820s) and the importance of the canning industry to this fishery. For many viewers, the best part may be the boats – six historic boats illustrate the different types of Maine lobsterboats over the years. With 150 other artifacts, the boats bring this still-evolving fishery to life.
